The Alchemy key of Design Thinking

Q

Questioning

Questioning

Design Playbook (Tools & Practices)

How Might We Questions: Frame opportunities in generative ways.

Five Whys: Keep asking “Why?” until root causes are uncovered.

Question Storming: Generate questions instead of answers to expand possibilities.

Reframing Problems: Shift from “How do we fix X?” to “How do we create Y?”

Curiosity Maps: Visualise questions around a central challenge.

Mindset (Reflection & Journaling)

Do I value answers more than questions?

What assumptions am I holding that need to be questioned?

What is the question I am most afraid to ask — and why?

Provocation:

“The future belongs to those who ask better questions.”

Facilitation Principle

As a facilitator, your role is to hold the room in inquiry. Resist the urge to rush to answers. Model curiosity by asking open, generative questions. Protect participants when their questions feel disruptive, and celebrate the courage it takes to ask.

Facilitator’s Mantra: “The question is the beginning of the journey.”

Facilitation Toolkit (Methods & Activities)

Question Wall: Capture every question in the room before exploring answers.

Inquiry Circles: Groups take turns asking, not answering, each other’s questions.

Question Exchange: Participants write questions anonymously and swap to explore.

Reverse Brainstorming: Ask, “How could we make this worse?” then invert insights.

Silent Questioning: Allow time for written questions to ensure all voices are heard.
