Growth Mindset

Exchange Stage (Coaching & Mentoring)

In coaching, the growth mindset is cultivated through reframing. Coaches help leaders see setbacks as stepping-stones: “What did this teach you?” or “How can this challenge grow your capacity?” Neuroscience shows that such reframing reduces fear responses and strengthens adaptive learning.

In mentoring, the growth mindset is modeled through stories of resilience and persistence. When mentors share their failures as learning moments, they normalize struggle as part of leadership development.

Together, coaching reframes challenges as growth opportunities, while mentoring embodies growth through lived example.

Gameplan (Tools & Practices)

Reframe Failure Exercises → Replace “I failed” with “I learned.”

Challenge Journals → Document challenges and lessons gained.

Effort Acknowledgment → Celebrate effort and persistence, not just outcomes.

Stretch Assignments → Encourage tasks slightly beyond current ability.

Mentor Growth Stories → Share times when growth emerged through difficulty.

Feedback Integration → Use feedback as fuel for growth, not criticism.
