Creativity, Curiosity, Courage

Exchange Stage (Coaching & Mentoring)

In coaching, creativity is nurtured by asking expansive questions that unlock new neural pathways: “What else is possible here?” Curiosity is encouraged by pausing judgment and inviting exploration before solution. Courage is cultivated when coaches challenge leaders to take risks in controlled, supportive contexts. Neuroscience shows that when fear is reframed as opportunity, the amygdala’s alarm response softens, and the prefrontal cortex re-engages for strategic action.

In mentoring, creativity is modeled through stories of improvisation and innovation. Curiosity is transferred when mentors embody a posture of learning, showing mentees that leaders never “arrive” but remain students. Courage is imparted through vulnerability — when mentors share not only their successes but also their failures and the risks they took.

In both coaching and mentoring, the baton of leadership is not simply carried on; it is reinvented. Creativity, curiosity, and courage ensure that the hand-over produces not repetition but renewal.

Gameplan (Tools & Practices)

  • Brainstorming Tools → Learning how to diverge before you converge

  • Igniting Curiosity → Always begin meetings with one question, not one answer. Normalize inquiry before judgment.

  • Creative Constraints → Use deliberate limitations (time, resources) to spark new solutions.
